Ashley Owens scored two goals in leading Erskine to a convincing
4-0 victory over the Lees-McRae Lady Bobcats in Carolinas-Virginia
Athletics Conference play Saturday afternoon. The loss drops the
Lady Bobcats record to 5-9-1, (2-6-1 CVAC).
The home side would take a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute when Sam
Saxon sent in a cross from the right side off of a free kick.
Owens headed the cross neatly into the corner past the outstretched
arms of Lady Bobcat goalkeeper Anita Hekman.
Just six minutes later, the Fleet struck again. This time Jodie
Locke followed up a Casey Cash shot that the Hekman could not hold
and put the ball in the back of the net to give Erskine a
comfortable 2-0 lead heading into the halftime break.
Owens scored her second goal in the 53rd minute, and it was Cash
who was again causing problems for the Bobcat defense. Cash broke
free down the left side and played the ball across the face of the
goal into the path of Owens who buried the ball in the corner to
give Erskine the 3-0 advantage.
Kim Barron closed out the scoring for the Fleet in the 84th
minute with an insurance marker for the final 4-0
win.
Three of Erskine's four goals were scored by seniors on Senior
Day.
The Lady Bobcats hit the field again Thursday October 19th when
they travel to Belmont Abbey to take on the defending CVAC
Champions. Kick off is set for 2:00p.m.
