Spartanburg, SC-- Lees-McRae's men's cross country team competed
in the Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference Championship this
past Saturday in Spartanburg, SC, hosted by Converse College. The
men's team finished 4th in the 10 team race.
Chris Holstein (Middleburg, FL) was the top Bobcat as he
finished 7th overall with a personal best time of 27:05, just two
places out of freshman of the year honors. Also earning All-CVAC
honors was junior Josh Blanc (Hope Mills, NC) as he finished 14th
with a huge personal best time of 27:27 over the 8k (5 mile
course).
"Chris and Josh really ran well today and put their heart on the
line," said Coach Craig McPhail. "I was so proud of their
performances."
Freshman Jon Bernal (Oakton, VA) finished two spots out of
All-CVAC honors with a 17th place finish and personal best time of
27:37.
"We placed our top 7 guys in the top 37 and with five of them as
freshmen, I think our future looks really good," McPhail said.
Another freshman Uriel Alberto (Winston-Salem, NC) continued his
improvement on the season with a time of 28:39 almost three minutes
better than his first race this season.
Next up for the Bobcats will be the NCAA DII Southeast Regional
Race held at Wingate University Saturday Nov. 4th with the men
running at 9:30 a.m.
