The Limestone College Saints marched on to the semifinals of the
Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference men's soccer tournament
with a 4-0 win over the Lees-McRae College Bobcats in quarterfinal
action Wednesday afternoon. The Bobcats see their season end with
an 8-7-3 record.
The Saints set the tone of the match right away, as Tom Beattie
scored his seventh game-winning goal this season one minute and 23
seconds into the game. Jacob Enstrom passed Beattie the ball at
the right side of the box, shot quickly, managing to catch a
Lees-McRae defender with his shot, deflecting past goalkeeper Dylan
Lawerence (pictured). The Saints had their persistence pay off
again 15 minutes later as Dominic Casciato scored off a pass from
Ali Benson. The Bobcats were out shot seven to two in the first
half.
In the second half, Limestone continued to dominate, recording
eight shots to the visitors' five. Benson buried the Saints third
goal in the 64th minute. Benson, who had been knocked to the
ground by a defender, chipped the ball to the upper right corner of
the net while still lying on his side to give Limestone the 3-0
lead. Joel Moran picked up the assist on goal. Beattie scored his
second goal of the match off a pass from David Ash, giving the
Saints the 4-0 victory and sending them into the CVAC semifinals
for the first time in program history.
Ryan Robinson had two saves for Limestone during the game, while
Lawerence had six for Lees-McRae.
