The Lees-McRae College Lady Bobcats soccer team hosted
Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference rival Pfeiffer University
Monday evening, falling 4-0 to the high flying Lady Falcons.
Lees-McRae's record falls to 4-8-1 (2-5-1 CVAC).
The Lady Falcons got the on the board in the 13th minute with a
goal from Megan Blevins. Blevins shot floated over the
outstretched arms of Lady Bobcats keeper Anita Hekman (pictured) to
give the visitors the 1-0 lead. Laura Crews scored her first of
two in the 26th minute when she managed to get through the Lady
Bobcats defense and make a move on Hekman one on one, putting the
ball into the open net. Crews scored her second of the game in the
54th minute when she won a race for an open ball after Katrina
Salem sent ball over the Lady Bobcats defenders heads. Crews
corralled the open ball and made no mistake putting a shot past
Hekman, giving the Lady Falcons a commanding 3-0 lead. Ashley
Hawkins added an insurance goal for the Lady Falcons in the 70th
minute.
"Tonight, we were simply out played by a great team.
Pfeiffer is consistently among the top 3-4 teams in the
conference," commented Head Coach Renee Lopez. "I'm very proud of
these girls because they had an outstanding work ethic especially
in the second half. We are looking forward to hosting our last home
game on Wednesday and will be excited to honor both Kat and
Anita."
The Lady Bobcats return to action when they host Bluefield
College Wednesday evening at 6:00p.m. The game will be the final
home contest for Hekman and fellow senior Katherine Smith.
