Kirk Rogers (Casselberry, FL) scored four goals and added three
assists but they were not enough as Deep South Conference foe
Queen's University Royals doubled the Bobcats 20-10 Saturday
afternoon at Tate Field.
The Royals got out to an early 5-0 lead, leaving the Bobcats
unable to scratch their way back from the deficit. With a three
minute stick violation to the Bobcats were forced to start the
second quarter with the man down unit. Lees-McRae was able to hold
the Royals offense at bay until 13:06 as the Royals put up the
first of three goals on the non releasable penalty.
During the second half, the Bobcats would continue trying to
peck away at the lead, but the deficit was too much to overcome.
"The guys battled hard right until the last whistle as they have in
every game this season and that's all I ask for," commented Head
Coach Matt Edmunds.
Rogers led the way with his game high seven points, also a
season and new career high for the freshman attackman. Junior
Tyler Stieber (Charlotte, NC) added four goals and an assist while
sophomore John Rierson (Greensboro, NC) and freshman Chevy Peake
(Greensboro, NC) would add single goals. Rierson would also three
assists for his first multi-point game of the year.
Queens used a balanced attack led by Andy Capallo and Zack
Jacobs with three a piece. Brian Lipscomb added a pair while
twelve Royals would contribute singles. Jacobs would also add a
pair of assists for a five point afternoon.
The game marked the last time that senior captains Jason Walker
(Highland, MD and Brad Dunn (Herndon, VA) would wear the green and
gold for the Bobcats. Walker finished with thirty points (11, 19)
and 84 ground balls in 47 career games while Dunn finished with 58
ground balls, playing in 50 career games.
