The Lees-McRae College Lady Bobcats volleyball team traveled to
Ferris State University to play in the Ferris State Invitational to
open the 2006 season. The Lady Bobcats started their season at the
FSU tournament for the second consecutive year.
The Lady Bobcats
started the weekend off playing West Virginia State University.
After losing a tightly contested game one 28-30, the Lady Bobcats
dropped to 0-2 in the match in a lopsided 16-30 game two loss.
After regrouping, the Lady Bobcats took game three 30-26, but were
unable to sustain their momentum falling 20-30 in the fourth
game.
Later in the afternoon, the Lady Bobcats played host Ferris
State. With a supportive home crowd, Ferris State topped the Lady
Bobcats in three games, each with a 22-30 score.
On day two of the tournament, the Lady Bobcats faced Texas
A&M-Kingsville in their first match. After dropping game one
26-30, the Lady Bobcats cruised to a 3-1 win with scores of 30-15,
30-12, and 30-21 to improve their season record to 2-1.
Saginaw Valley State provided the opposition for the Lady
Bobcats second game of the day. In four tightly contested games,
the Lady Bobcats would prevail, 30-27, 28-30, 30-24, and 30-27; to
even their record at 2-2.
AVCA Preseason All America watch candidate Lacie Smith led
the Lady Bobcats over the weekend averaging 11.5 kills per game and
six digs per game, while fellow All American watch candidate Amanda
Huffaker contributed 7.5 kills per game. A trio of freshman also
contributed consistently throughout the weekend as Tiarra Pendleton
put up 9.5 kills per game and setters Trisha Reese and Lauren
Dickover averaged 24.25 and 9.75 assists per game
respectively.
The Lady Bobcats will travel to Raleigh, NC to play North
Carolina Central University Wednesday August 30, 2006 at 7:00p.m.
before returning home to host the Carolina Challenge September 2nd
and 3rd.
