The Lees-McRae College Bobcats soccer team hosted Coker College
Cobras in Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference play Saturday
afternoon at Tate Field, improving to 5-4-1 (2-1 CVAC) with a 4-1
win.
Berin Boracic had a career high six points, scoring the first
and last Bobcats goals and assisting on the third and fourth.
Boracic (pictured) started the scoring in the 10th minute after one
Cobra defender challenged him at the sideline only to lose his
footing. With space, Boracic streaked to the middle of the field,
beating another defender one on one, and firing a bullet past
keeper Nathan Scales. The Cobras would battle back and knot the
game at one when Ben Beetch scored in the 17th minute. The Bobcats
would take the lead for good after Boracic's shot deflected off of
a Cobras defender and to the foot of Alex Turnello, who made no
mistake. The Bobcats would take the 2-1 lead into halftime.
In the second half, both teams played conservatively, trying not
to concede the next goal. In the 61st minute the Bobcats used
their speed to take advantage in transition as Boracic hit a
streaking Matt Lacey. Lacey drew Scales across the goal and beat
him to the far corner for the 3-1 lead. Ten minutes later, Boracic
capitalized on a free kick from the top of the 18 yard box, rifling
a shot around the Cobra wall and into the top corner.
"We've had a tough couple of weeks, not getting the results we
would have liked," commented Head Coach Chris Whalley. "The boys
have been grafting each game, and tonight our quality shon through
in the performance with four great goals."
