The Lees-McRae College Lady Bobcats volleyball team hosted the
Carolina Challenge this past weekend at Williams Gymnasium on the
campus of Lees-McRae College. The Lady Bobcats came out of the
weekend with a 2-2 record, bringing their overall record to
5-4.
The Lady Bobcats opened the weekend with a powerful USC-Aiken
squad on Saturday morning. The Lady Bobcats fell in four games
27-30, 32-30, 26-30, 22-30. The win improved Aiken to 5-1.
Regrouping the Lady Bobcats took on Francis Marion earning the win
in a see-saw affair with the Patriots, 30-24, 24-30, 30-18, 16-30,
16-14.
Sunday morning brought on Newberry College, who the Lady Bobcats
disposed of in three games, 30-27, 30-20, 30-26, and it appeared
the Lady Bobcats would continue their momentum through to their
finale against in state rival Lenoir Rhyne. Unfortunately, the
Lady Bobcats would run out of steam falling in a hard fought five
match game, 30-28, 28-30, 29-31, 30-27, 17-19.
Lacie Smith (Knoxville, TN) led the Lady Bobcats attack through
the weekend averaging 15.5 kills per game while also contributing
5.75 digs per game. For her efforts, Smith was named to the All
Tournament Team. Daviana Metti (Cordoba, Argentina) only played
three of the four games due to injury, turning in a solid weekend
with excellent play both offensively and defensively, managing to
average 10.66 kills and 5.3 digs through the weekend. Tiarra
Pendleton (Alta Loma, CA) was also hit by the injury bug, playing
in two games, posting 9 kills and 7 digs per game. Trisha Reese
(Hanover, PA) and Lauren Dickover (Las Vegas, NV) shared the
setting duties for the Lady Bobcats averaging 24 and 19.5 assists
per game respectively.
The Lady Bobcats will open the Carolinas-Virginia Athletic
Conference Schedule Tuesday evening when they travel to Pfeiffer
University.
