GREENWOOD, SC--The number two ranked Lees-McRae Bobcats soccer
team won its seventh straight game Wednesday evening, defeating #13
Lander University 3-1 in non-conference action. The Bobcats
improve to 12-1-1 while the Bearcats fall to 8-2-2.
Kyle McGimsey (Plant City, FL) put the Bobcats on the board
first with his fourth goal of the season in the 22nd minute with
Conference Carolinas assist leader Berin Boracic (Orlando, FL)
picking up his eighth assist of the season. Four minutes later
McGimsey was scored his second of the game and fifth of the year
off a cross from Jonny Bownes (Worksop, England) to give the
visitors a two goal cushion before halftime. However the home side
would manage to get one back before halftime, as the Bearcats Adam
Arthur beat Bobcats keeper Sean Paradise (North Point, FL) with two
minutes remaining in the first.
Conference Carolinas leading scorer Lee Squires (Sheffield,
England) would increase his lead over Boracic in the scoring race,
scoring his 14th of the season to restore the visitors two goal
cushion in the 63rd minute to ensure the Bobcats longest unbeaten
stretch of the season remained intact.
"Obviously playing the 13th ranked team in the nation is going
to be difficult, but we showed our character and stepped up to the
challenge," commented Head Coach Chris Whalley. "It was great to
see Kyle be rewarded with a pair of goals for his hard work this
season and of course great to get this result on the road. We're
fully focused on Pfeiffer now and continuing to take our season one
game at a time," concluded Whalley.
The Bobcats will travel to Misenheimer, NC to battle Pfeiffer in
Conference Carolinas action this Saturday. Kickoff is set for
4:00pm.
