MOUNT OLIVE, NC--The Mount Olive College Trojans jumped on the
Lees-McRae Lady Bobcats early, earning a 2-0 Conference Carolinas
win Saturday, scoring both goals with the first eight minutes of
the contest. The Trojans improve to 7-6-3, (5-1-3 Conference
Carolinas) while the Lady Bobcats drop to 5-13, (3-6).
Lyndsay Brennan opened the scoring for the home team,
capitalizing on a cross from Kate Painter in the sixth minute. Two
minutes later Gina Dos Santos extended the early lead to two after
Painter's cross deflected off of a Lady Bobcats defender. Dos
Santos corralled the loose ball and found the back of the net
giving the home side the early lead.
Brittany Bolton (Roanoke, VA) registered seven saves in goal for
the Lady Bobcats while Amanda Huber and Jenn Sastre each picked up
a pair of saves to combine for the shutout in the Trojans goal.
The Lady Bobcats will host Belmont Abbey Wednesday at 4:30pm.
Prior to kickoff, the Lady Bobcats will honor seniors Brittany
Sherrill (Winston-Salem, NC), Gennie Garcia (Fort Worth, TX) and
Katharine Smith (Banner Elk, NC).
