BANNER ELK, NC--The Lees-McRae Lady Bobcats improved their
Conference Carolinas record to a league best 9-2, (15-10 overall)
with a three game sweep (30-17, 30-26, 30-15) over visiting Barton
College Wednesday evening at Williams Gymnasium. Barton falls to
2-20 (1-12) with the loss.
The Lady Bobcats took their time to get going in game one, as
the Bulldogs would not allow the home side to get more than a five
point cushion. After having their lead cut down to three (13-10),
the Lady Bobcats put together a 6-1 run to go up 19-11, forcing a
Barton timeout. After extending the lead by one, 25-16, Barton
tried another timeout to regroup, however it would do no good.
Lees-McRae would outscore the visitors 5-1 to earn a 30-17 win in
game one.
Game two appeared to be headed into the same direction as the
first as the Lady Bobcats jumped out to an early 6-1 lead. The
Bulldogs third timeout of the match proved to be most effective as
the visitors responded with an 11-3 run to take a 12-9 lead. The
Lady Bobcats would regroup themselves, regaining the lead 16-15,
extending their lead to three at 25-22. After freshman Whitney
Kiser (Connelly Springs, NC) served up back-to-back service aces
and teamed with senior Daviana Metti (Cordoba, Argentina) for a
block at the net, the Lady Bobcats finished off the Bulldogs 30-26
for the two game lead.
The Lady Bobcats once again marched out to an early lead, 7-1,
in game three, but this time managed to keep the pressure on,
doubling the Bulldogs 30-15 to complete the sweep.
Metti led the attack for Lees-McRae posting a match high 16
kills. Lauren Dickover (Las Vegas, NV) recorded a match high 33
assists while Metti also helped out on the defensive side with a
team high ten digs.
Melissa Ritter led the Bulldogs with a team high 14 kills while
Macon Harmon took care of the setting duties registering 20.
Michelle Walker had a match high 18 digs while also adding nine
kills.
The Lady Bobcats will now hit the road for five consecutive
Conference Carolinas contests starting with Coker College this
Friday. The Bulldogs will resume play Saturday at Converse.
