ANDERSON, SC--Anderson University used a 23-4 run to open the
second half to beat the Lees-McRae College Bobcats 74-60 in
Conference Carolinas men's basketball action Thursday evening at
the Abney Center. The Bobcats fall to 0-5, (0-2 Conference
Carolinas) while the Trojans move to 2-3, (1-1).
The Bobcats held a 35-33 lead at the intermission, erasing a
seven point deficit over the course of the final four minutes of
the first. The Trojans quickly erased any momentum the Bobcats had
gained in the final minutes of the first going on a 12-2 run in the
first five minutes of the second half to take a 45-37 lead. After
a Bobcats field goal, the Trojans came back with eleven more to
stretch their lead to 56-39 with just over thirteen minutes to
play, taking firm control of the contest.
A putback by the Trojans Jarret Johnson at the 8:21 mark gave
Anderson its largest lead of 19, 63-44. The Bobcats tried to claw
their way back, but would get no closer than eight points the rest
of the way.
Anderson was led by Stephen Cobb and Kevis Cornwell with 16
points apiece while Johnson added 13 for the Trojans, who snapped a
three-game losing streak with the win.
Freshman Nick DeSchepper (Fishers, IN) led the Bobcats with 16
points while classmate Raysean Hairston (Elizabethtown, NC) and
Modestas Riauka (Kaunas, Lithuania) each added 13.
The Bobcats will return home to host Conference Carolinas foe
Coker College Saturday afternoon. Tipoff is scheduled for
4:00pm.
