BREVARD, NC--The Lees-McRae Bobcats won their second straight
and first on the road Tuesday evening, defeating the Brevard
College Tornados 86-74 in non-conference men's basketball
action.
The Bobcats improve to 2-5 (1-2 Conference Carolinas) while the
Tornados drop to 1-6.
The Bobcats jumped out of the gates strong, establishing control
early with a 12-4 run over the first five minutes. The Tornados
would knot the score at 21, only to see the Bobcats respond with a
28-18 run and cruise into halftime with a 49-39 lead behind 60
percent shooting from the field, including ten from behind the
three point arc.
The Tornados would hold the Bobcats to nine points from behind
the arc in the second, however the visitors would capitalize on
their opportunities when provided, going 13 for 15 from the charity
stripe and continuing to shoot well from the floor. Defensively
the Bobcats would also tighten things up not allowing the Tornado
to cut their lead to single digits until just under two minutes
remained, holding the margin to no less than seven and only sending
them to the foul line twice over the final twenty minutes.
A quartet of freshmen scored in double figures to lead the Bobcats
attack. Aaron
Woodacre (Piney Flats, TN) led the way with a career high 28
points going seven for eight from behind the three point arc. Raysean
Hairston (Elizabethtown, NC) added 21 points for the Bobcats
while Aaron
Willey(Kingsport, TN) and Nick
DeSchepper (Fishers, IN) chipped in with ten each
respectively.
Sophomores Jonathan Whitson and Andrew Freeman led the Tornados
in scoring with 19 apiece, while fellow classmate Shane Galloway
added 13 points off the bench.
The Bobcats will resume play next week, hosting Tusculum in
non-conference action Wednesday, December 12 at Williams
Gymnasium. Tipoff is set for 7:00pm.
