The Lees-McRae College Bobcats basketball team battled Queen's
University of Charlotte in Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference
action Monday evening, falling 72-58. The loss drops the Bobcats
record to 5-17, (4-11 CVAC) while the Royals maintain second place
in the conference with a 17-6 record, (13-3 CVAC).
The Bobcats scored the first bucket of the game, only to have
the Royals answer back and lead for the remainder of the first
half. The Royals opened up a 31-19 lead with just over five
minutes remaining in the half before the Bobcats clawed their way
back into the game. The visitors would use an 11-2 run, with seven
points from Henry Williams, over the final five minutes to close to
within three and head into recess with the momentum.
The Bobcats sustained their momentum from the first half and
tied the score 25 seconds in. The teams traded buckets and the
lead until just under the fourteen minute mark of the second half
before the depth and experience of the second place Royals
prevailed. The Royals established a ten point cushion with ten
minutes to play and coasted to victory.
Williams led the Bobcats offensively with 13 points while Aaron
Dugger chipped in 12. Stephen Haymer, (pictured top left), also
scored in double digits adding 10 and also pulled down a game high
seven rebounds.
The Bobcats will return to action Thursday evening when they
travel to CVAC rival Pfeiffer University. The game will be the
Bobcats third of four consecutive road games, and is slated for a
7:30pm tip off.
