Allison Cromer was 3-for-3, scored three runs, and drove in two
runs to lead Carolinas Virginia Athletic Conference foe Anderson
University to a 10-5 victory over Lees-McRae in women's softball
action. The Lady Trojans won the first game 4-2 to sweep the
doubleheader Saturday afternoon.
In game one, Ashley Rogers struck out ten to lead the Lady
Trojans, allowing just two hits and two earned runs over seven
innings. Kayla Williams got things started, supplying the offense
for the home side with a three run home run in the third inning.
The Lady Bobcats cut the score to 3-2 with a two run double off the
bat of Paula Fryer in the sixth, but Anderson would add insurance
with a solo shot from Kayla Thrasher, also in the sixth inning.
Dakota Beck, (pictured top left), kicked off the second game
with a two run home run in the first inning, giving the Lady
Bobcats their first lead between the two games. Anderson would tie
the score at two in the second inning with an RBI double from
Brittany Gary and a run scoring single from Melissa Carmichael.
Leading 5-3, the Lady Trojans scored three runs in the bottom of
the fourth, capped with a two run triple from Cromer. Ellen Steele
added a two run home run for the home side in the fifth, making the
score 10-3. The Lady Bobcats managed to get two runs back, but the
damage had been done, and Anderson improved to 3-1 in CVAC play,
11-6 overall.
The Lady Bobcats fall to 4-14 overall, (1-5 CVAC), and will meet
Montreat College Tuesday evening a non-conference doubleheader.
Game times are 5:00pm and 7:00pm.
