The Lees-McRae Lady Bobcats softball team opened play at the
Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference Tournament Friday morning,
battling the #6 seed Pfeiffer University Lady Falcons. Pfeiffer
would emerge with the win, 3-0 over the #11 seed Lady Bobcats in
the first game of the double elimination tournament for both
teams.
Dacia Ijames earned the win for Pfeiffer tossing a complete game
shut out with six strike outs. Amanda Dodson, (pictured top left),
took the loss for Lees-McRae, going six innings allowing three runs
with seven strikeouts and six walks.
For Pfeiffer, Stephanie Brandt was 1-for-3 with a home run and
two RBIs, while Ijames was 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
Leading Lees-McRae was MJ Williams going 2-for-3, while Dodson
was 1-for-3.
Pfeiffer advanced to the winner's bracket to face #3 seed
Anderson, while Lees-McRae dropped the loser's bracket to face #8
seed Belmont Abbey.
In the elimination game against the Abbey, the Lady Bobcats got
their bats going after being shut out earlier, defeating the Lady
Crusaders 4-1.
Beth Simpson earned the win for the Bobcats, allowing one run in
seven innings with eight strike outs, while Brittany Memoli took
the loss for Abbey, allowing four runs in seven innings with four
strike outs.
Salle' Horner led the way from the plate for the Lady Bobcats
going two for four with a home run and a pair of RBI. Keri Austin
went two for three scoring a run.
Rachel Parker scored the only run for Abbey, a solo home
run.
The Lady Bobcats now advance to play Limestone College Saturday
morning at 11:00am.
