The Lees-McRae Lady Bobcats volleyball team opened their season
with a 3-0, (30-22, 30-15, 30-26), win over Concordia College
Friday evening at the Northern Virginia Volleyball
Association Welcome Back Tournament Friday afternoon. The win
marked the first time the Lady Bobcats have started 1-0 under third
year Head Coach James Petrik.
Senior Daviana Metti (Cordoba, Argentina, pictured top left) led
a well-balanced Lady Bobcat attack with nine kills, while Caty
Honey (Geneva, IL) chipped in seven and hit .583 with no errors for
the match. Sophomore Katie-Marie Legg (Alta Loma, CA) nailed six
kills for the nine-time defending Conference Champions while
Whitney Kiser (Connelly Springs, NC) and Natalie Burns (Orlando,
FL) recorded a handful of kills a piece. As a team, the Lady
Bobcats hit an impressive .451 for the match. Legg and Burns also
made big contributions from the service line, registering five and
four aces respectively.
Sophomore Trisha Reese (Hanover, PA) handled the setting duties
at the net on offense picking up 30 assists.
Defensively, a pair of freshman, Lindsey Brant (Orlando, FL) and
Tracey Copley (Virginia Beach, VA), paced the Lady Bobcats with
four digs each. At the net, Legg registered a solo block and three
block assists, while Honey also added a hat trick of block-assists
herself.
The Lady Bobcats will return to action playing East Stroudsburg
at 11:00am and UNC-Pembroke at 3:30pm Saturday afternoon to
conclude the Northern Virginia Invitational.
