Banner Elk, NC-- The Lees-McRae Lady Bobcats soccer team hosted
Barton College Saturday evening, dropping a 7-2 decision to the
Lady Bulldogs in Conference Carolinas action. Barton improves to
2-2-4 (2-0-2 Conference Carolinas) while the Lady Bobcats record
now stands at 2-7 (1-3).
Tara Davis would give the visitors the early lead, scoring the
first of four goals in the 12th minute. The early lead would last
less than four minutes as Maribeth Novak (Homer Glen, IL) knotted
the score lofting a ball from the top of the box over Lady Bulldog
keeper Ashley Gregory. Recalling that the Lady Bobcats ended their
season a year ago, knocking the team out of the playoff contention
in the last game of the season, the Lady Bulldogs came roaring back
to reclaim the lead when Allie Wilkerson redirected a cross from
Jessica Corsey in the 21st minute. Davis would complete her hat
trick with back-to-back goals in the 40th and 45th minute to give
the visitors a 4-1 edge at halftime.
Davis would once again open the scoring in the second, picking
up her fourth of the game after Patricia Acosta sent a ball towards
Lady Bobcats keeper Brittany Bolton (Roanoke, VA) creating a foot
race with her defender and the keeper. Davis managed to get a foot
on the ball, sending it trickling past Bolton for her fourth of the
contest. The resilient Lady Bobcats would manage to get one back
ten minutes later when Aerial Gregston (Atwater, CA) would fire a
bullet past Gregory from outside the box. Unfortunately, Barton
would continue to pressure, adding a pair of insurance goals by
Wilkerson and Olivia Brown to close out the scoring.
"We have to give them full credit. They avenged a disappointing
loss last season and came out ready to play tonight," stated Head
Coach Renee Lopez.
Bolton (pictured top left) would finish the game with 12 saves
while Gregory picked up five.
The Lady Bobcats will host Queens University Monday night, with
kickoff set for 5:00pm.
