Banner Elk, NC--The Lees-McRae men's team fell to Mt. Olive
97-59 in Conference Carolinas action Saturday afternoon in
Williams Gymnasium. Mt. Olive climbs to 5-1 in conference (9-3
overall) while the youthful Bobcats continue to struggle this
season and fall to 1-5 (2-10 overall).
The Bobcats came out ready to defend the offensively loaded Mt.
Olive team, forcing four lead changes in the first six minutes of
the game, before allowing the Trojans to take the lead 12-10 at the
13:56 mark.
With three minutes to go in the half, and down 15, the Bobcats
went on a 6-0 run to pull within nine. Senior Mario McClunie
(Knoxville, TN) threw in an assist, a defensive rebound, four free
throws and a field goal in the final minutes of the half to keep
the Bobcats within nine with the score 42-33.
The Trojans came out on fire after the halftime break, shooting
65.6% from the field for the second half, and completely taking the
Bobcats, who continue to struggle from the field, out of the
game.
Freshman Raysean Hairston (Elizabethtown, NC) scored 14 points
for the Bobcats while sophomore Stephen Haymer (Fayetteville, NC),
playing limited time in his first game of the season due to an
injury, pulled down seven boards.
The Trojans were lead by Kendrick Easley (Norfolk, VA), Mike
Holloman (Virginia Beach, VA), and Craig Hayes (Woodbridge, VA) who
scored 17, 14, and 12 respectively.
The Bobcats travel to Misenhemier, NC to take on Pfeiffer
University, on Monday, January 14 at 7:30 pm.
