Today we meet up with junior co-captain Maribeth Novak of Homer
Glenn, Illinois. The forward/midfielder for the Lady Bobcats has
two goals on the season and plays a vital role as a leader on the
team. In the classroom, Novak is pursuing a degree in pre-health
with plans to become a physical therapist. Join us as we get up
close and personal with her.
1. What made you decide to come to Lees-McRae
College? I had always known I would go away to school,
and I never even applied to any of the colleges or universities in
Illinois. I was originally set to attend Carthage College in
Kenosha, Wis., but when I had a last visit to Lees-McRae it was a
completely new atmosphere for me and a world I had never seen
before. I had never seen or stepped foot on a mountain, in fact, I
had never seen any landmass bigger than the sledding hill at
Dellwood Park in Lockport, Ill..
2. What are you most looking forward to this
season? I am looking forward to meeting the incoming
players and hopefully beating the records from last year and my
first year attending LMC.
3. In which part of the game does your strength
lie? I believe I am a vocal player.
4. What do you do to prepare yourself for
matches? I have a weird habit of having to put on my
guards and cleats on in a certain way and the way I put my uniform
on. I also need to listen to music and completely pull my mindset
onto the game.
5. Who has had the biggest impact on your soccer
career? I would say my younger brother, Bob. He is two
years younger than I am and has been playing soccer two years more
than I have. He has always been my competition, and he is a great
player. I have always tried to play half as well as he does.
However, I will never tell him that and will deny it if he finds
out.
6. What is your favorite part about being a member of
the Bobcat soccer team? I love the family-like aura the
team has and the way the girls are always there for eachother.
7. What personal and team goals have you set for this
season? I want to have better stats and make all
conference like my freshman year. I believe the team can become
first in conference and make it to the championship again.
8. What is the biggest mental challenge you face on the
field? Myself.
9. Who has been the biggest role model in your life?
How? My parents. They have always believed in me and told
me that I could do whatever I set my mind to.
10. What is your idea of a perfect afternoon?
My idea of a perfect afternoon is going on a hike to go
sight-seeing, then go swimming in a lagoon, also possibly taming
wild tigers for an hour or two with Allison.
11. If you could try something new today what would you
try and why? I've always wanted to go sky diving or go
into outer space - as an astronaut.
12. Describe your favorite dessert.
Moosetrack ice cream or cheesecake
