DUE WEST, S.C. - Nick Robinson scored his second game-winning
goal of the week to give the Lees-McRae Bobcats (13-2-1, 6-0-1) a
3-2 overtime win over the Erskine College Flying Fleet (6-7, 3-3)
Saturday in a Conference Carolinas match. The win was head coach
Chris Whalley's 50th career win.
The Flying Fleet opened the scoring in the 34th minute when Kyle
Bennett scored an unassisted goal, but the Bobcats answered in the
45th minute when Lee Squires (Sheffield, England) scored on a
penalty kick.
Bennett put the Flying Fleet up 2-1 in the 49th minute on the
game's second penalty kick, and again the Bobcats answered with
another penalty kick goal scored by Squires in the 70th minute.
In the final minute of the first overtime period, Robinson
(Melbourne, Australia) headed in the game winner on a Jamie Price
(Wales) corner.
The win gave head coach Chris Whalley his 50th career win. Whalley
is 50-18-7 in his career. All 50 of Whalley's wins have come at
Lees-McRae during his four year tenure.
"It was a great effort tonight as a team to pull together and get
out of here with a win," assistant coach Jay Benfield said.
"Credit Erskine for playing very hard and challenging us for 90
plus minutes. The team and I are proud we could be a part of this
milestone win for Coach Whalley, his 50th win in less than four
years at the helm of the Bobcats."
The Bobcats return to action Saturday, October 25th at Tate Field
against Anderson University at 6 p.m.
