BANNER ELK, N.C. - The Lees-McRae Lady Bobcats (14-11, 11-3) won
a five set battle, 3-2 (10-25, 25-21, 25-22, 22-25, 15-11) over the
Mt. Olive College Lady Trojans (12-14, 8-5) Friday night in a
Conference Carolinas match in Williams Gymnasium.
The Lady Bobcats found themselves down 1-0 after a 10-25 first set
loss, but regained their composure and tied the match at one with a
25-21 second set win. The two teams swapped sets three and four
with the Lady Bobcats winning set three 25-22, and the Lady Trojans
winning set four 22-25.
Tied at seven in the fifth set, the Lady Bobcats capitalized on a
Lady Trojan hitting error that extended the lead to 9-7. But, with
the Lady Trojans knocking at the door with the score 11-10 Whitney
Kiser's (Connelly Springs, N.C.) ace extended the Lady Bobcat lead
to 12-10. The Lady Bobcats closed the set and the match with a
triple block by Megan Epperson (St. John, Ind.), Katie-Marie Legg
(Alta Loma, Calif.) and Taylor Stice (Franklin, Tenn.) for 15-11
win.
Mt. Olive is the first team to win a set against Lees-McRae in
Williams Gymnasium this season.
Epperson led the Lady Bobcats' offense with 12 kills and compiled
21 digs on defense. Kiser had eight kills and five service aces.
Natalie Burns (Orlando, Fla.), Legg and Stice had six kills. Legg
also had three total blocks. Lauren Dickover (Las Vegas, Nev.)
dished out 22 assists and had 12 digs, while Trisha Reese (Hanover,
Penn.) had 14 assists. Kell Bodgan (Leawood, Kans.) led the
Bobcats with 27 digs.
Alicia Mote had 15 kills on 76 attempts for the Lady Trojans.
Corie Skislak and Racey Bartley had ten kills apiece. Bartley also
had three and a half total blocks and eight service aces. Joanie
Werling passed out 36 assists, and had two service aces.
The Lady Bobcats host Barton College Saturday, October 25th at 7
p.m. in Williams Gymnasium for their next match.
