BELMONT, N.C. -- Five different Belmont Abbey players recorded
goals as the Belmont Abbey Lady Crusaders women's soccer team
extended its unbeaten streak to 37 with a 5-0 win over the
Lees-McRae Lady Bobcats Saturday afternoon.
Danielle Kubinski put the Crusaders ahead 1-0 just 1:54 into the
contest. Lauren Faerber fired a corner kick to the center of the
box, where Rebecca Mateo headed it over to an unmarked Kubinski,
who headed home the one-time volley.
Shortly before halftime, Erika Trivisonno made it 2-0, as she
gathered a pass from Elsie Hernandez and fired home a blast from
the center of the box at the 43:17 mark.
In the second half The Abbey scored three goals in a six minute
span, as Faerber struck first at the 59:32 mark when she blasted a
corner kick that went directly into the net.
Two minutes later Celene Molera made it 4-0 when she ran down a
Kristin Voirin clearance and sped past the Lees-McRae defense and
slipped a shot in for the goal.
Three minutes later, Mateo and Molera hooked up for an easy goal.
Mateo beat a defender down the left side and fired a cross to the
middle of the box, where Molera was all by herself and headed home
the volley for a 5-0 lead, which was the final.
Anna Wells made two saves in the net for the Abbey, while Marissa
Middleton (Olathe, Kan.) collected four.
The Abbey outshot Lees-McRae 15-4 and held a 12-1 advantage in
corner kicks.
The Abbey improves to 15-2-3 overall and 10-0-1 in Conference
Carolinas, while the Lady Bobcats fall to 11-9 and 3-8 in
Conference Carolinas. With the loss the Lady Bobcats' season
ends.
