BANNER ELK, N.C. - Dale Parker scored the game-winning goal in
the fourth shootout round to give the Lees-McRae College Bobcats
(16-2-2, 9-0-1) men's soccer team the win over the Pfeiffer
University Falcons (10-9-1, 6-4) and advance them into the final
round of the Conference Carolinas Tournament Friday night at Tate
Field.
After four scoreless periods, two forty-five minute halves and two
ten minute overtime periods, the two teams took the game to a
shootout.
Pfeiffer's Nick Brindley made the first attempt, and Luke Staats
(Almere, Holland) made the Bobcats' first attempt. In round two,
Jerry Tesh made his attempt, and David Palmer (Gateshead, England)
put his attempt in the back of the net. Bradly Sisk opened the
third round with a made attempt, and Lee Squires (Sheffield,
England) put his attempt into the top corner to tie it at three.
In Pfeiffer's fourth round, Matt Denton missed to the left of
keeper Sean Paradise (North Port, Fla.), who had guessed correct,
and Dale Parker (Worksop, England) blasted in his attempted to give
the Bobcats a 4-3 lead. In the fifth and final round, Paradise
guessed correct forcing Pfeiffer's Renato Barbosa's attempt wide
left and gave the Bobcats the win.
Paradise made two saves during the four timed periods and was
credited with two saves in the shootout to earn the win and his
sixth shutout of the season. Alex Moreno made four saves during
the timed periods and none in the shootout to earn the loss for the
Falcons.
The Bobcats outshot the Falcons 18-10.
"I credit Pfeiffer today," head coach Chris Whalley said. "They
made it extremely difficult tonight on us, and we didn't play our
best. I am proud of the team for staying calm under pressure, and
excited for the two top teams to play in the final."
The top ranked Bobcats will host the second ranked Anderson
University Trojans Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Conference Carolinas
Tournament final round at Tate Field.
