Banner Elk, NC--The Lees-McRae Bobcats swept visiting Shaw
University 9-0 in Div II non-conference men's tennis action
Saturday afternoon, halting a two match losing streak to bring
their record to 4-2. Shaw University meanwhile falls to 0-3 on the
season.
Freshman Nandor
Solymosi (Drebecen, Hungary) battled his way to another #1
singles victory in a tough 7-6(5), 6-2 contest. Alek
Mojski's (Berlin, Germany) consistent play gave him a win at
the number two spot for his second win at that position and his
fourth overall. Sophomore Shaun
Sumner (Burlington, NC) gave up only two games in his match,
while Freshman Travis
VanHoy (Union Grove, NC) did not allow his opponent to take a
game at the four slot. Freshman Mike
Ridenhour (Mooresville, NC) also only gave up two games in his
win. Blair
Propert (Gold Coast, Australia) won his match by default.
Sumner/Solymosi competed at the #1 doubles position, clawing
their way to a victory in a 9-7 battle while the duo of
Teague/Ridenhour gave up only one game in their 8-1 win. Shaw gave
LMC the third doubles match through default.
The Bobcats travel to Boiling Springs, NC to take on Gardner
Webb University on Monday, February 18. The match is set to begin
at 2:00pm.
