DUE WEST, SC--The Lees-McRae Bobcats basketball team concluded
their regular season with a 78-75 overtime road win over Erskine
College in Conference Carolinas action Friday night. The Bobcats
finish the year with a 6-21 (5-15 Conference Carolinas) record
while the Fleet also wrap up their year at 6-21 (2-18).
In a game featuring six ties and twelve lead changes, Friday
night's game was a nail biter from the tip-off. With control of
the game up for grabs, each team struggled for lead. Lees-McRae
was able to take a slight 30-28 advantage into the halftime break.
During the second half, neither team could pull away. The Fleet
were able to only build a four point lead (42-38) during the second
20 minutes before Lees-McRae went on a 20-7 run to take a 58-49
advantage. But Erskine responded with a 14-5 run of their own,
tying the score up and sending the game into overtime. The Bobcats
would outscore the Fleet 15-12 in the extra frame to earn the
win.
Nick DeSchepper (Fishers, IN) and Aaron Woodacre (Piney Flats,
TN) led the Bobcats attack with a team high 18 points each while
Raysean Hairston (Elizabethtown, NC) also reached double figures
contributing 16 points.
Erskine sophomore Brandon Wright led the Fleet with a game-high
26 points and team-high 7 rebounds. Senior guard TJ Taylor ended
his collegiate career with an impressive performance of 13 points,
8 assists, and 6 rebounds. Also for the Fleet, sophomore Jay
Boulware had 13 points and James Fraley had 10.
