FAIRFIELD, CT--In the first match of a two game road trip to the
East Coast, the Bobcats let one slip 3-1 to Sacred Heart University
in Fairfield, CT. With the loss the Bobcats slip to 0-5 on the
season while the Pioneers gained their first win of the year and
stand at 1-5.
The Bobcats got off to a slow start Friday evening falling 30-20
and 30-22 in the first two games before battling back into the
match with a 30-27 win in game three. Game four proved to be a
close one between the two teams, but in the end the Pioneers
prevailed 30-28.
The Bobcats were led by freshman Colin
Kelly (Orlando, FL) who had a match high 24 kills and also
added 11 digs and three aces. Classmate Shane
Holderby (Virginia Beach, VA) hit .370 (14-4-27) and had 14
kills in the effort. Juan
Rameriz (Miami, FL) put up 45 assist and 12 digs.
Setting the pace for the pioneers were junior BJ Smith (Shelton,
CT) and sophomore Kalani Efstathiou (Beaverton, OR) who each had 13
kills. East Greenwich, RI native Scott Grandpre added 11 kills,
eight digs, and a pair of aces and solo blocks.
The Bobcats travel to Newark, NJ to take on the New Jesrey
Institute of Technology at 3:00pm Saturday afternoon.
