Banner Elk, NC--The Lees-McRae Lady Bobcats softball team hosted
their first games of the season on Friday, defeating the visiting
King College Tornado 7-6, 11-6 in the doubleheader. The wins
improve the Lady Bobcats record to 6-0, while the Tornado fall to
0-3.
In the 11:00am game it was junior short stop Salle'
Horner (Lexington, SC) setting the pace for the Lady Bobcats.
Horner, who hit a double and a triple in the game, also garnered 4
RBIs. On the mound it was sophomore Amanda
Dodson (Walnut Cove, NC) going the distance. Dodson and
classmate Paula
Fryar (Clinton, NC) both had homeruns in the first game on
their home field with Dodson's coming in the bottom of the first
and Fryar's in the third. The Lady Bobcats held the Tornado to one
run in the top of the 7th to secure the 7-6 victory.
In the second game of the day, freshman Magen
West (Whitney, TX) headed to the mound, pitching a complete
game, supported by an active defense. On the offensive side West
added three hits herself, including a double and an RBI, in the
winning effort.
The Lady Bobcats had 12 hits, including a home run from Horner
and three doubles from West, Paige
Coleman (Thomasville, NC), and Meagan
Knowles (West Palm Beach, FL). The Lady Bobcats also took
advantage of the Tornado defense, stealing three bases in the
game. After giving up five runs in the first two innings
Lees-McRae allowed only one run in the remaining five innings to
grab their second win of the day at 11-6.
The Lady Bobcats hit the road Saturday, February 9th traveling
to Southern Wesleyan in Central, SC for an afternoon
doubleheader.
