GAFFNEY, S.C.--The Lees-McRae College softball team split a
Conference Carolinas doubleheader with Limestone at the Lady Saints
Field on Thursday. Limestone won the first game 3-0 while
Lees-McRae captured the second 3-1. Lees-McRae improves to 12-10
(3-5 in the conference). The Lady Saints now stand 11-18 overall,
(3-3 in league play).
In game one Lees-McRae's Magen
West (Whitney, Texas) allowed three earned runs for the outing,
all in the fourth inning. West regained her composure and shut
down Limestone for the remaining two innings. Offensively the Lady
Bobcats hit several balls hard to fielders but couldn't convert the
hits to runs and fell 3-0 to the Lady Saints.
In the nightcap this would change, however. Freshman Paige
Coleman (Thomasville, NC) homered for the Lady Bobcats in the
top of the second, answering the 1-0 lead Limestone had taken in
the bottom of the first. The Lady Bobcats added two more to the
board in the third with a single by Elaine
Beavers (Lebanon, VA), a sacrifice by Meagan
Knowles (West Palm Beach, FL) and an RBI triple by Salle'
Homer (Lexington, S.C.). Coleman hit once again, driving in
Horner to put the Bobcats up 3-1. Neither team would score again as
the Lady Bobcats picked up the win.
For the Bobcats, Amanda
Dodson (Walnut Cove, N.C.) went the distance on the mound for
the win.
On beating Limestone for the first time in six years head coach
Julie Kennedy was pleased that the team found a way to win. "We
have come together as a team lately, but we have much work to do to
get to where we can sweep teams as solid as Limestone. Our goal is
to have a consistent level of improvement every day."
The Bobcats will host Mount Olive College for a Conference
Carolinas doubleheader with the Trojans on Saturday; game one is
slated to start at 1:00 p.m.
