WHEELING, WV - The Lees-McRae College Bobcats fell 13-5 in
non-conference men's lacrosse action to Wheeling Jesuit University
Sunday afternoon at Wheeling Stadium. The Bobcats fall to 1-3 this
season while the Cardinals win their second straight to even their
record at 2-2.
Freshman Eddy Dolan (New Mills, England) opened the scoring for
the Bobcats with his first career collegiate goal just over five
minutes into the game. The Cardinals would respond with three
straight to go up 3-1 midway through the second quarter. The
Bobcats would claw their way back by tying the score with a pair of
goals from sophomore Kyle Ficken (Brooklyn Park, MN) and junior
Neil Sleight (Williamsburg, VA) a minute apart. After a poor
clearing attempt by the Bobcats the Cardinals would capitalize and
ignite a 4-0 run to take a 7-3 lead into halftime.
With plenty of fight left in them, the Bobcats would look to
claw their way back once again, opening the second half with goals
from Sleight and freshman Ryan LeBlanc (Naples, FL) to cut the
deficit to two with 5:11 remaining in the third quarter. Mistakes
would once again cost the Bobcats, as the experienced Cardinals
made good on the opportunities the Bobcats provided, scoring the
game's final six goals for their second straight win.
Freshman Pedro Silva (Bluffton, SC) was dominant on the face
offs for the Bobcats winning 10 of 14. The Cardinals outshot the
Bobcats 33-31 and won the ground ball battle 43-20.
The Bobcats will look to rebound in their home opener, a
Conference Carolinas contest with rival Pfeiffer University March
15th at Tate Field.
