Banner Elk, NC--The Mt. Olive Trojans grabbed two wins from host
school Lees-McRae (Banner Elk, NC) in Conference Carolinas women's
softball action Saturday afternoon, taking the first 6-1 then
winning the second 3-1 in eight innings. The Lees-McRae Lady
Bobcats slip to 13-15 on the season and 3-9 in league play, while
Mt. Olive climbs to 20-13 (6-2).
Game One

The Trojans with a 1-0 lead, broke lose in the top of the fifth
scoring five runs off only two hits and an error to take the 6-0
lead against losing pitcher Magen West (Whitney, TX) and relief
pitcher Nicole Baxter (Denver, NC). West was credited with only
two of the six runs and struck out three batters in a four and a
third innings. Baxter struck out an additional two batters in her
time on the mound.
The Lady Bobcats were held scoreless until the bottom of the
seventh when they began to rally. Centerfielder Amanda Dodson
(Walnut Cove, NC) led off with a double followed by a single from
West. Zsachlayne Roguska (Port Charlotte, FL) got herself in the
scorebook when she lined out scoring Dodson, crediting her with the
lone RBI for the game. However, their effort fell short when the
Lady Bobcats were not able to sustain the rally.
The Lady Bobcats finished the game with seven hits and an error,
while the Trojans were able to convert nine hits into six runs and
had no errors for the game. Trojan pitcher Anna Turvin was
credited with the win for Mt.Olive.
Game Two

The nightcap proved to be a pitcher's battle with former
Pitchers of the Week, the Lady Bobcats' Dodson and Mt. Olive's
Jenny Jackson, dueling it out and, with the help of the defenses,
holding the other squad scoreless through seven innings.
In the top of the eighth, Mt. Olive, with a runner placed on
second, used two hits and two errors by the Lady Bobcats to go up
3-0. Lees-McRae's Salle' Horner (Lexington, SC), starting on
second, took advantage of a passed ball to advance to third.
Roguska, at the plate with a runner in scoring position, doubled,
scoring Horner and adding another RBI to her day's tally. The Lady
Bobcats were once again stopped short as the next three batters
popped up, lined out and struck out, ending the Lady Bobcats chance
for the win.
Jackson was credited with the 3-1 win, while Dodson, with seven
strike-outs was assigned the loss. Mt. Olive finished with five
hits and zero errors while the Bobcats had four hits to go along
with four errors.
The Lady Bobcats continue conference play Sunday afternoon at
home when they face Belmont Abbey. First pitch is set for
1:00pm.
