THOMASVILLE, NC - Lees-McRae College freshman midfielder Desiree
Cox has been selected as the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas
women's lacrosse Player of the Week during week number seven in the
2008 season, the second time she has received the honor this
season.
Already named as the Nike/Inside Lacrosse National Player of the
Week, Cox continues her assault on the Lees-McRae scoring charts,
averaging 6.33 goals per game over three games last week. In the
Lady Bobcats first game of the week, Cox led her squad with five
goals in a tightly contested Conference Carolinas match up with St.
Andrews Presbyterian. In her second game, the Lady Bobcats hosted
Belmont Abbey in another Conference Carolinas showdown and chipped
in with a goal, continuing the goal scoring streak that started her
collegiate career to eleven games. After being held to just one
goal against Abbey, the first time in her career she has not scored
multiple goals in a game, Cox exploded for 16 points against
Methodist University leading the Lady Bobcats to their first win of
2008, a 24-18 decision over the Monarchs. Cox set NCAA records
with her performance for both goals in a game with 13 and points in
a game with 16.
To date, her 54 goals lead the nation in total goals and goals
per game (4.91) while she also leads Conference Carolinas in ground
balls per game averaging 3.72, (41 total). Cox' 5.27 points per
game average also ranks eighth nationally and second in Conference
Carolinas while her 58 total points are tied for fourth best
nationally and third in the conference.
