TIGERVILLE, S.C. -- Trailing 1-0 at halftime, the Lady Bobcats
scored two goals in a hard fought second half to pull out a 2-1
road win in their season opener Saturday against North
Greenville.
In the 52nd minute lone senior Christine
Calvert (Dallas, Texas) stepped up and put a loose ball in the
box into the back of the net to tie the game at one. Calvert's
scoring opportunity was created when a hustling Tiffany
Rodman (Corona, Calif.) challenged North Greenville's keeper to
create the loose ball.
Rodman picked up the game-winner for the Lady Bobcats on a penalty
kick around the 60th minute to make it 2-1.
"We played fantastic in the second half," said head coach Renee
Lopez. "We came out and started knocking the ball around and played
our game with possession in the midfield."
Rodman stepped up for the team by playing out of position this week
and providing key offensive sparks for the Lady Bobcats.
"This was a great first game for us," said Lopez. "We battled
hard all game, and we look to continue this in our next game
against Ferrum."
The Bobcats will take the pitch again Tuesday on the road at Ferrum
College in Ferrum, Va. at 5:00 p.m.
