LAURINBURG, N.C.- The Lees-McRae College Lady Bobcats scored a
pair of first half goals and held on for a 2-1 Conference Carolinas
women's soccer victory at St. Andrews Presbyterian College on
Saturday afternoon to remain undefeated at 5-0.
Freshman Melissa Horn (Pasadena, Md.) scored the first Lees-McRae
goal in the 26th minute scoring off a corner kick by junior Allison
Keith (Signal Mountain, Tenn.). Freshman Jessica O'Leary
(Millsbury, Mass.) netted the Bobcats eventual game-winner in the
36th minute on Keith's second assist of the game.
Lees-McRae continued to maintain a 2-0 lead into the second half
until Knights' freshman Chelsea Ross (Newark, N.Y.) scored her
first collegiate goal in the 51st minute. Ross' shot from outside
the 18-yard box that squeaked inside the far post pulled the Royal
Blue and White to within one goal.
St. Andrews ripped six of their nine shots in the second half but
sophomore goalkeeper Brittany Bolton (Roanoke, Va.) made all four
of her saves in the second stanza to preserve the victory for the
Bobcats.
Senior goalie Garrison Burton (Atlanta, Ga.) had a game-high nine
saves for the Knights.
Lees-McRae out shot SAPC, 16-9, and held a 7-3 corner kick
advantage but were whistled for more fouls, 15-6.
Since this was the first conference match for both teams Lees-McRae
improves to 1-0 in the conference, and St. Andrews falls to
0-1.
The Lady Bobcats next match is Wednesday, September 17th at 7 p.m.
at Tate Field against Converse College.
