BANNER ELK, N.C. - Lees-McRae College Bobcats fell to the Mount
Olive College Trojans 102-68 Saturday afternoon in a Conference
Carolinas game in Williams Gymnasium.
With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 1-17 overall and 1-7 in the
conference, while the Trojans improve to 7-7 overall and 6-1 in the
conference.
Down seven, 18-11, Sam Youse made a three pointer to cut the lead
to four, 18-14 with 12:36 showing in the half, but the Trojans
responded with an 11-0 run capped off by a Kendrick Easley field
goal to give the Trojans a 29-14 lead with under ten minutes left
in the half.
The lead remained 15, 47-32, after Easley hit two free throws
heading into the intermission.
In the first half, the Bobcats shot 29 percent from the floor and
37 percent from behind the three point arc, while the Trojans shot
37 percent overall and 29 percent from three point range.
After the break, the Trojans quickly pushed the lead to 22, 66-44
on an Aleks Mitrovic field goal with 13:20 showing on the
clock.
Three minutes later the lead was 28, 79-51, after Justin Melton
knocked down a three pointer.
With 4:16 left, an Easley field goal extended the lead to 31,
91-60.
With one minute remaining, the Trojans took their largest lead of
the game 99-64 on two Kason Cheeks free throws, and the game ended
at 102-68 on a Tanner Carnes field goal.
The Bobcats were 44 percent from the floor in the second half and
25 percent from the three point line. The Trojans shot an
impressive 66 percent overall and 54 percent from three point
land.
Mount Olive used 21 Bobcat turnovers to score 34 points, while
Lees-McRae only forced 13 turnovers that resulted in 15 points.
Kyle Boardman (Clemmons, N.C.) led the way for the Bobcats with his
second 20 point performance of the week. The freshman had 21
points and seven rebounds. Stephen Haymer (Fayetteville, N.C.) had
his second consecutive double digit performance with 16 points.
Dairl Scott (Pfafftown, N.C.) contributed with 10 points.
For Mount Olive, Easley recorded a game high 24 points, and Mike
Holloman recorded a double-double with 22 points and a game high
ten rebounds. Aaron Dobson and Justin Melton had 10 points for the
Trojans. Melton also recorded a game high eight assists.
The Bobcats will travel to Erskine College Monday, January 19th to
take on the Flying Fleet at 7:30 p.m.
