LAURINBURG, N.C.- Despite four Lees McRae College Bobcats with
double-digit points, the team fell to 76-64 to the St. Andrews
Presbyterian College Knights in conference action Saturday
afternoon.
With the win, the Knights improve to 3-6 overall and 1-2 in the
conference while the Bobcats remain winless with 0-13 and 0-3
ledgers.
Freshman Kyle Boardman (Clemmons. N.C.) had a team high 18 points
for the Bobcats. Sophomore Aaron Woodacre (Piney Flats, Tenn.)
followed with 14 points, while classmates Sam Youse (Winston-Salem,
N.C.) and Dairl Scott (Pfafftown, N.C.) both turned in 13 point
performances. Woodacre grabbed a team-high seven boards, and Youse
made a game-high four steals.
Kurt Fenderbosch, Joseph Gripper and Zack Garst all scored in
double digits, sizzling the nets on a combined 20-for-26 (76.9
percent) accuracy for the Knights. Gripper was 8-of-11 for a
game-high 19 points. Garst dominated the post making 7-of-8 shots
for 18 points while Fenderbosch cashed in a season-high 12 points
on 5-of-7 precision.
Lees-McRae jumped out to a 17-9 lead in the first six minutes, but
the St. Andrews' defense stepped up and held the Bobcats scoreless
for the next nine minutes as they took control of the game. The
Knights went on a 20-0 run during that span; which was highlighted
by a pair of three-pointers by both Gripper and Fenderbosch; to
catapult into the lead for the rest of the contest.
The Knights went into the locker room with a 38-28 lead. SAPC shot
a staggering 62.5 percent (15-of-24) in the opening frame compared
to 46.2 percent (12-of-26) by Lees-McRae.
The Knights maintained a manageable advantage in the second half
building its largest lead of 15 points in the final minute of the
contest before coasting to the 12-point victory. SAPC held a 35-28
rebounding edge while committing fewer turnovers, 18-16.
St. Andrews doubled up Lees-McRae, 44-22, on points in the paint
while still keeping the Bobcats' defense extended making 50.0
percent (6-of-12) of its three-pointers. The Knights converted on
32-of-58 (55.2 percent) field goals while Lees-McRae was 25-of-57
(43.9 percent).
The Bobcats return to action Monday, January 5th as they host
Anderson University at 7:30 p.m. in Williams Gymnasium.
