BRISTOL, VA. - Sophomore Magen West became the first Lees-McRae
College Lady Bobcat since the school has been Division II to hit
two homeruns in a single game to boost the Lady Bobcats to a
doubleheader sweep, 4-0 and 10-3, against the Virginia Intermont
College Lady Cobras.
West's homers came in game two of the doubleheader, with the first
one in the first inning. With two outs and a runner on base West
blasted a two-run blast that highlighted a four run first inning
for the Lady Bobcats.
Her second shot came in the sixth inning with Lees-McRae up 7-3.
Her three run bomb soared over the fence to give the Lady Bobcats a
10-3 lead and the final score of the game.
During the game she had nine total bases and was 3-for-4 with five
RBIs and two runs scored.
West also earned the win in the circle for Lees-McRae going seven
strong innings. She allowed only four hits and three runs and
recorded six strikeouts.
In game one, Lees-McRae pushed a run across in the first inning
when Veronica Ollier singled, stole two bases and scored on an
error.
Neither team scored again until the Lady Bobcats scored three
insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 4-0
lead. Back-to-back RBI doubles by Amanda Dodson and Anna Carter
highlighted the inning.
Dodson picked up the win and the complete game shutout. She
allowed only two hits and had six strikeouts.
