MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. - Kendrick Easley scored 25 points, while Mike
Holloman added 21 points, nine rebounds and six assists as the
Mount Olive College Trojans defeated the Lees-McRae College Bobcats
90-64 in Conference Carolinas men's basketball action Saturday at
Kornegay Arena.
Mount Olive (16-7 overall, 15-1 Conference Carolinas) used a
14-0 run to break away from a two-point game early in the first
half and led by double figures the rest of the way. Easley had a
steal and end-to-end layup and Holloman added a pair of slam dunks
as the Trojans built a 23-7 lead with exactly 12 minutes left.
Lees-McRae (2-25, 2-15) pulled within 14 after a putback by Sam
Youse, but Easley knocked down a pair of three-pointers and the
Trojans led 35-13 with 4:20 left in the half. The lead grew to as
many as 24 points and Mount Olive went into the locker room with a
44-23 halftime advantage.
Easley, 17 points, and Holloman, 13 points, combined for 30 of the
Trojans' 44 first-half points.
Lees-McRae cut the margin under 20 on Aaron Woodacre's
three-pointer in the opening minute of the second half. But Easley
hit another three-pointer and Aaron Dobson hit three in a row from
beyond the arc as the lead grew to 66-31 with 14:48 left to play.
Mount Olive took its starters out with just over 11 minutes
remaining after the Trojans built a 36-point lead.
Dobson scored nine of his 11 points in the second half for the
Trojans, while Carnes added nine points off the bench. Easley and
Justin Foskey had three steals apiece.
Woodacre hit 5-of-11 three-pointers for Lees-McRae and led four
Bobcats in double figures with 19 points. Kyle Boardman scored 16
points, Youse added 11 and Jesse Hoots finished with 10 points.
The Trojans' 10-game winning streak is the longest since setting a
school record with 11 wins in a row during the 2003-04 season.
Mount Olive has won 14 of its last 15 games since starting the
season with a 2-6 mark.
Lees-McRae travels to Anderson Monday at 7:30 p.m. in Conference
Carolinas action for their next game.
