BELMONT, N.C. - The Lees-McRae College Lady Bobcats women's
lacrosse team dropped their season opener and Conference Carolinas
opener to the Belmont Abbey College Lady Crusaders, 23-8, Tuesday
afternoon.
Less than three minutes into the match, The Abbey held a 3-0 lead
before Tiffany Paris put the Lady Bobcats on the board with a
goal.
After a Lady Crusader goal, Desiree Cox scored her first goal of
the season with 24:09 remaining in the half to cut the lead to
4-2.
The Abbey scored three consecutive goals before Cheryse Cox
capitalized on a free position shot to score the goal and make it
7-3 Belmont Abbey.
Belmont Abbey added nine more goals in the first half, while Paris
scored two, to complete the first half hat trick, and Desiree Cox
added another goal before the break to make it 16-6, Lady
Crusaders.
Forty-five seconds into the second half an Abbey goal made it 17-6,
but Desiree Cox scored her third and final goal of the match to
make it 17-7 and to give her the hat trick.
Belmont Abbey added six more goals before Cheryse Cox scored her
second goal of the game and final goal of the game to give the Lady
Bobcats a 23-8 loss.
Paris scored three goals on five shots. Desiree Cox score three
goals on eight shots, six of which were on goal, and picked up four
ground balls. Sister Cheryse Cox scored two goals on five shots.
Julia Campbell collected four grounds.
Belmont Abbey outshot Lees-McRae 39-19.
Lees-McRae will travel to Queens University of Charlotte Friday,
February 20th for their next game.
