BRISTOL, TENN. - The Lees-McRae College Lady Bobcats women's
softball team spilt a nonconference doubleheader with the King
College Lady Tornado in two one-run games.
Lees-McRae won the first game 3-2, but fell in extra innings in the
second game 9-8.
In game one, Lees-McRae used a three-run top of the third inning to
take a 3-0 lead on one hit, a walk and two errors.
King closed the lead to 3-1 in the bottom half of the third when
Katie Hubbard singled and scored Shauna Haga.
Another King run in the fifth cut the lead to 3-2 on an Amanda
Crumpler homer, but Lees-McRae held the lead over the final two
innings to seal the win.
Amanda Dodson earned the win in the circle for the Lady Bobcats.
She allowed just four hits in the complete game win. Dodson is now
4-2 on the year for Lees-McRae.
Ashley Benfield notched the only Lees-McRae hit of the game.
In game two, the Lady Tornado used a four-run bottom of the second
inning to take a 4-0 lead on an RBI double by Emilee Edelman and a
three run homerun by Emily Bennett.
Lees-McRae answered with their own multi-run inning in the top of
the third with two runs on two RBI singles by Anna Carter and Paula
Fryar to cut the lead to 4-2.
But, King answered with two runs in the bottom half of the third to
extend the lead to 6-2 on a homerun and an error.
After a quiet fifth inning by both teams Lees-McRae pushed three
runs across in the fourth inning highlighted by a two RBI double by
Fryar.
With Lees-McRae trailing 8-5 in the seventh, Fryar struck again
with a two run homerun to cut the lead to 8-7. Paige Coleman
followed with a single and scored on an error to tie the game and
send it into the extra frame.
King finished the game with one run in the bottom of the eighth for
the 9-8 win.
Fryar led Lees-McRae with three hits in four at bats and a total of
five RBIs. Carter was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.
With the split, Lees-McRae is 7-5 on the season heading into their
Conference Carolinas opener at Belmont Abbey Wednesday, February
25th.
