LAKE WALES, FLA. - Two thousand four hundred and ninety-six
miles and twenty-four hours in between games on the West Coast and
back-to-back-to-back games on the East Coast didn't slow the
Lees-McRae College Bobcats men's volleyball team as they went 3-0
on day one of the Warner Invitational Tournament.
The Bobcats defeated Fontbonne University, 3-0 (30-23, 30-18,
31-29), in the first match, Warner University, 3-1 (30-18, 30-28,
26-30, 30-23), in the second match and Grand Canyon, 3-0 (30-18,
30-28, 26-30, 30-23), in their final match.
Against Fontbonne, Jeff Black led the team with 15 kills on 18
attempts with only two errors for a staggering .722 hitting
percentage. Robbie Rowe added 11 kills on 19 attempts with four
errors for a .364 hitting percentage. Rowe also led the team with
two and half blocks, and Juan Ramirez had a team high eight digs.
Sean Woodward passed out 38 assists in the match. Black led the
team with five service aces as well.
In the Warner match, Colin Kelly had a team high 17 kills on 36
attempts with six errors for a .306 hitting percentage. The Black
brothers, Jeff and Ryan, added 13 kills apiece. Ryan led the team
with a .611 hitting percentage and Jeff had a .500 hitting
percentage. Robert Ritchie had nine digs, and Ramirez dished out
66 assists.
In the final match against Grand Canyon, Kelly again led the team
with 19 kills. Chad Mercado tallied 14 kills, and Jeff Black and
Jeremy Evans added ten kills apiece. Ryan Black led the team with
a .615 hitting percentage with nine kills on 13 attempts with only
one error. Kelly led the team with three blocks and five service
aces. Ritchie picked up nine digs, and Ramirez again handed out 66
assists.
The Bobcats will resume action Saturday with a doubleheader against
Missouri Baptist and Cardinal Stritch.
