BANNER ELK, N.C. - With the 22-4 win over the Converse College
Valkyries, the Lees-McRae College Lady Bobcats women's lacrosse
team has doubled the wins from the previous three seasons combined;
head coach Amanda Chase has her ladies at 6-4 overall with seven
games remaining in the season.
The Lady Bobcats posted 22 goals, 16 of which were assisted goals.
The 16 assists is season high for the team. Ten of the 14
position players recorded an assist in the game with freshman Lexi
King leading the way with four assists.
Nine of the 14 Lady Bobcat field players scored in the game, and
six players scored multiple goals.
The 18-point margin of victory ties the Lady Bobcats highest margin
of victory this season.
The Lady Bobcats sprinted out to a 5-0 lead five minutes into the
game before Converse got on the scoreboard at the 23:44 mark.
Lees-McRae went on a 6-0 run before Converse notched their second
goal to make it 11-2. Four goals later the Lady Bobcats took a
15-2 lead into the intermission.
The Lady Bobcats picked the scoring right back up in the second
half with a 5-0 run to push the lead to 16-2 before Converse added
their third goal with 9:36 left in the game.
The two teams traded goals to give the game the final score of 22-4
and give the Lady Bobcats a season sweep of Converse.
Sisters Desiree and Cheryse Cox led the team with six total points
each. Both scored four goals and had two assists. Desiree also
grabbed a team high four draw controls. Tiffany Paris had five
points with three goals and two assists and scooped up a team high
seven groundballs. Julia Campbell and Laura Hawthorne, playing in
her first game of the season, also scored three goals. Susan Dael
added two goals, and Anna DeLuke, Clair Shaw and Lauren Ochoa
scored one goal apiece. Kelly Mendsen, who also recorded an assist
but did not score, earned a team high four draw controls, as well.
Shaw and Lauren Martin caused a team high three turnovers.
For Converse, Carrie Jackson, Lisa Ryan, Ashley Day and Sammeria
Crowder all found the back of the net. Carrie Jackson had a team
high seven groundballs, and Syndey Brown had a team high four draw
controls. Day earned five groundballs, and Crowder and Ryan had
four groundballs apiece.
Martha Peacock earned the win with four saves on eight shots on
goal for the Lady Bobcats, and Ashley Mercuri took the loss between
the pipes for the Valkyries.
Lees-McRae won the groundball battle, 47-31, and draw controls
16-9.
Converse had 25 turnovers compared to Lees-McRae's 16.
Lees-McRae outshot Converse 40-16, and 33-8 shots on goal.
The Lady Bobcats will host Queens University of Charlotte for their
next game March 27th at 5:00 p.m.
