BANNER ELK, N.C. - In the pouring rain and sloppy field
conditions, the Lees-McRae College Lady Bobcats fell to the Queens
University of Charlotte 17-11 in Conference Carolinas women's
lacrosse action Friday afternoon.
Tiffany Paris led the Lady Bobcats with five goals. Desiree Cox
followed with four goals, and sister Cheryse contributed with two
goals. Desiree led the team with eight groundballs, and Paris had
six. Paris also had a team high four draw controls. Julia
Campbell forced three turnovers.
Queens was led by Amanda Martin, who scored four goals and one
assist, and by Brittany Phillip who had four goals. Kelley Duffey
had a game high five assists. Three Lady Royals had earned three
groundballs to lead the team. Caitlin O'Rourke had a team high
three draw controls.
Queens exploded despite the sloppy conditions with seven goals in
nine minutes to take a 7-0 lead. Then the two teams traded goals
before the break to make the halftime score 10-3.
After the break, Paris scored back-to-back goals to cut the lead to
10-5. A Queens' goal was followed by three Lees-McRae goals to
make it 11-7.
Queens scored four of the last five goals in the final minutes of
the game to earn the 17-11 lead. The game was cut short due to the
field conditions.
Queens outshot Lees-McRae 31-24, but the Lady Bobcats won the
groundball battle 30-22.
With the loss, Lees-McRae falls to 6-5 overall and 2-4 in the
conference, while Queens improves to 3-9 overall and 3-5
overall.
Lees-McRae travels to St. Andrews for their next game Sunday, March
29th.
