CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Martha Peacock recorded a career high nine
saves, and Tiffany Paris scored a career high seven goals as the
Lees-McRae College Lady Bobcats took down the Edinboro Fighting
Scots, 23-11, Wednesday afternoon in a nonconference game at a
neutral location at The Queens Sports Complex at Marion Diehl
Park.
With the win the Lady Bobcats improve to 3-2 overall and have a
three game win streak. The streak is the longest winning streak in
the program's seven-year history.
Peacock faced 22 shots, 20 of which were on goal, and made nine
saves. Peacock started playing lacrosse late in the fall semester
and has made a transition between the pipes for the Lady Bobcats.
Peacock has played every minute in goal this season, and with the
win, improves to 3-2 on the season.
Paris' seven goals earned the freshman a career high. She scored
seven goals on 12 shots, nine of which were on goal. She also
handed out three assists for a total of 10 points that tied her for
a game high.
Edinboro jumped out to an early two-goal lead before the Lady
Bobcats could get into the game. Abbey Mackessy and Jolene Quinta
added the first two goals for the Fighting Scots.
Back-to-back goals by Desiree Cox tied the game before Paris
notched her first goal of the game to give the Lady Bobcats a 3-2
lead. Cox added another goal and sister Cheryse Cox notched a goal
on an assist from Abby White to extend the lead to 5-2.
Quinta and Mackessy added two more goals to close the gap to 5-4,
but Paris and Cox added two more goals for the Bobcats with Quinta
and Mackessy answering to make it 7-6.
Lees-McRae took control of the game with seven consecutive goals to
take a commanding 14-6 lead, but Maureen McAvoy notched the final
goal of the second half for the Fighting Scots to make the halftime
score 14-7.
In the second half, the Lady Bobcats scored the first five goals
before Lauren Davis scored for Edinboro to make it 19-8.
Paris added two more goals, then Desiree Cox found the back of the
net for the final time to make it 22-8, but Quinta added two more
goals and Lauren Kincaid scored to make it 21-11.
Cheryse Cox scored the final goal of the game to make it 23-11
Lees-McRae.
Desiree Cox scored a game high eight goals for the Lady Bobcats and
had two assists for ten total points. Paris followed with her
seven and Cheryse Cox added five goals. Clair Shaw, Lauren Martin
and Lexi King scored one goal apiece. Paris led the team with nine
ground balls.
Quinta led the Fighting Scots with five goals, and Mackessy added
three goals.
Lees-McRae outshot Edinboro 42-22.
The Lady Bobcats will put their three-game win-streak on the line
Saturday against Erskine College at Tate Field at 2 p.m.
