DUE WEST, S.C. - The Lees-McRae College Lady Bobcats (19-17,
7-9) got swept by the Erskine College Flying Fleet (21-17, 8-6),
2-1 and 9-1, in Conference Carolinas softball action Saturday
afternoon.
Game one turned into a pitching duel with Amanda Dodson in the
circle for the Lady Bobcats. Dodson recorded seven strikeouts in
six innings of work while only walking two batters in the losing
effort.
Lees-McRae got on the scoreboard first when Anna Carter blasted a
solo homerun in the fourth inning, but Erskine tied the game in the
bottom of the fifth inning with an RBI single.
Erskine scored the game winner in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI
double to secure the 2-1 win.
Nicole Baxter was the only other Lady Bobcat with a hit in the
game.
In game two, Erskine jumped out to a 4-0 lead with four runs in the
first inning. The highlights of the inning was a two RBI double
and a solo homerun.
Lees-McRae cut the lead in the third inning when Ashley Benfield
reached on an error and scored on a Meagen Knowles double.
But, the Flying Fleet responded with two more runs in the bottom of
the third and capped off the game with three runs in the bottom of
the six to earn the 9-1 win.
Knowles, Paula Fryar and Magen West were the only Lady Bobcats with
hits.
The Lady Bobcats will host Queens April 13th at 2:00 p.m. for their
next doubleheader
