MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. - The Lees-McRae College Lady Bobcats women's
volleyball team suffered their first Conference Carolinas loss of
the season, 3-2 (25-10, 25-17, 23-25, 23-25, 19-23), at the hands
of the Mount Olive Trojans Friday night.
The Lady Bobcats jumped out to an early two set lead with a
25-10 set one win and a 25-17 set two win. The
Trojans, however, bounced back to win the final three sets, 23-25
in sets three and four and 21-19 in set five, to secure the
match. Lees-McRae led 14-11 in the fifth set, but
couldn't capitalize on three match points for the win.
With the loss, the Lady Bobcats falls
to 9-4 overall and 4-1 in the conference, while the Trojans improve
to 5-12 overall and 5-0 in the conference. Mount Olive
stays at the top of the conference as the lone unbeaten as the
Bobcats are in a tie with Pfeiffer with one loss.
Whitney Justice paced the Lady Bobcat
offense with 16 kills and a .600 hitting
percentage. Justice's 16 kills came on 25 attempts
with only one error. She also led the Bobcats with six
blocks, one solo and five block assists. Megan
Epperson followed with 13 kills, and Taylor Clendenin had 12
kills. Both players hit over .300 in the
match. Megan Mitchell passed out 42 assists, and Luana
Rocha picked up 14 digs. Epperson had ten service
aces, and Justine Condon had six service aces.
Alicia Mote and Racey Bartley led the
Trojans with 17 kills. Caitlin Skislak contributed ten
kills. Joanie Werling handed 51
assists. Mote and Christine Maul 12 and 11 digs
respectively.
The Lady Bobcats travel to Barton
Saturday for their next match.
