CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Lees-McRae College Bobcats fell to the
Queens University Royals, 77-58, Thursday night in a Conference
Carolinas men's basketball game.
The half started with the two teams trading the lead over the
first five minutes until a three pointer by Devon Seaford gave the
Royals a 9-7 lead. Queens pushed their lead to five, 12-7, with
13:58 to play in the half, but the Bobcats would battle back and
tie the game at 19 with just under ten minutes left on a Daniel
Sepokas field goal. After a defensive, a Jeremiah Henry field goal
and a Sepokas three gave the Bobcats a five-point lead, 24-19.
However, the Royals would regain the lead on a Daniel Bailey field
goal with 4:41 to play. Neither team could pull away until Queens
went on a 10-0 over the final 2:23 in the first half to take a
39-29 lead into the locker rooms.
After the break, Queens didn't allow Lees-McRae back into the
game and even extended their lead to 16 points, 50-34, on a Brandon
Nichols three with 16:18 remaining. Lees-McRae closed the gap to
13 points, 59-46, at the nine-minute mark, but Queens pulled out of
reach three minutes later with a 66-49 lead. The Royals ended the
game up 19 pionts, 77-58, to earn the win.
Sam Youse paced the Bobcats with 15 points and was followed by
Daniel Sepokas, who had ten points. Henry grabbed a team-high five
rebounds, and Anthony Johnson had a game-high four steals.
Baily, who was 10-of-15 from the floor, led all scorers with 24
points and 15 rebounds to her a double-double. Antonio Stable
added 10 points and had three blocked shots.
Queens was hot from the floor by shooting 53 percent, 46 percent
from three and 68 percent from the free throw line. Lees-McRae was
only 33 percent from the floor and from three while only hitting 40
percent of their free throws.
Queens outrebounded Lees-McRae 47-26.
The Bobcats will host Mount Olive Saturday for their next game
in Williams Gymnasium to 2 p.m.
