DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. - The Lees-McRae College Bobcats won one of
their three matches at the Daytona Beach Tournament over the
weekend.
In the Bobcats first match against Johnson and Wales on Friday,
they fell 3-1 (30-26, 25-30, 30-25, 30-24). Robbie Rowe led the
Bobcats with 17 kills and a .324 hitting percentage. Chad Mercado
followed with 12 kills, and Jeremy Evans tallied 10 kills. Juan
Ramirez passed out a team-high 36 assists, and Mercado had a
team-high 13 digs. Raphael Vieira also had double-digit digs with
ten.
On Saturday in the team's first match they fell to Grand Canyon,
3-0 (30-27, 30-22, 30-28). Chad Mercado, who had 11 kills, was the
only Bobcat in double-digit kills. Evans and Ramirez had 13 and 11
digs respectively. Ramirez also had 28 assists.
In the team's final match of the weekend they avenged their
first loss with a 3-2 (30-22, 21-30, 36-34, 20-30, 15-10) win over
Johnson and Wales. Mercado had a tournament-high 20 kills for the
Bobcats, and Evans followed with 18 kills. Justy Tevid picked up
22 digs, and Ramirez had 52 assists and 15 digs.
The Bobcats will return to action Saturday, February 6th with
two matches, the first against Philadelphia Biblical University and
the second against Eastern Mennonite.
