BANNER ELK, N.C. --- Serae Mele (Rio Rancho,
N.M.) netted the lone goal of the contest to lead the Pfeiffer
University Lady Falcons past Lees-McRae College at Tate Field on
Saturday afternoon in Conference Carolinas play.
The lone goal of the match (5-4, 3-1 CC) came midway through the
ninth minute, when Pfeiffer's Mele took a cross from Hanna
Holmstrom (Bredaryd, Sweden) and delivered a cross that found its
way into the far side netting to take the 1-0 lead.
Lees-McRae (8-3, 4-2 CC) went on the attack with Jessica O'Leary
(Millbury, Mass.) leading the way with three shots on frame, while
Kaitlyn Kerrigan (Lakewood Ranch, Fla.) putting three of four on
goal to lead the Lady Bobcat offense.
The Lady Bobcats fired 16 shots on the evening, including eight
on frame. The Lady Falcons powered only five shots, including
three on frame. Jamie Alcala (Fredricksburg, Va.) turned away eight
shots on the evening to lead the Pfeiffer defensive stand, while
the Lady Bobcats' Brittany Bolton (Roanoke, Va.) stopped two Falcon
shots.
Lees-McRae returns to the pitch on Saturday, October 9,
traveling to Charlotte, N.C. to take on Queens University of
Charlotte in league action. The match is slated for a 5 p.m.
start.
