BANNER ELK, N.C. --- James Galvani (High
Wycombe, U.K.) headed home the winner midway through the second
half to lead the Lees-McRae College men's soccer team to a 2-1 win
over No. 17 Mars Hill College on Wednesday night at Tate Field.
Lees-McRae (9-3-2) outshot the Lions (11-2-1) by a 14-6 margin,
including a 9-3 advantage in the second half. Galvani recorded a
goal and an assist in the match to pace the Bobcats, notching his
third match-winner of the season. Lee Squires (Sheffield, U.K.)
netted his team-leading ninth goal of the campaign, while Luke
Perry (Cheshire, U.K.) also added an assist in the match. Shadi
Harb (San Andres, Colombia) netted the lone goal for the Lions via
the penalty kick.
Squires opened the scoring midway through the third minute,
knocking a header over the Mars Hill keeper to give LMC an early
1-0 lead. Galvani and Perry were each credited an assist on the
goal after Galvani flicked on a corner from Perry. Harb leveled the
score in the 24th minute via the penalty kick, sending the strike
into the back of the net to even the match at 1-1 with his fifth
goal of the season.
Galvani broke the deadlock early in the 66th minute, heading in
the effort after his initial shot was denied by the keeper to give
the Bobcats the eventual match-winner with his eighth strike of the
season. Mars Hill made a late push towards goal in the final
minutes, but was repeatedly denied by the Bobcat defense en route
to the pivotal 2-1 victory.
Lees-McRae returns to the pitch on Saturday when the Bobcats

schedule against St. Andrews Presbyterian. The match is slated to
